Spiritual addiction recovery

This article will outline specific strategies of how to magnify God in the process of spiritual healing as well as finding Biblical help for addiction. Practical methods will be detailed that can be immediately applied to everyday living for successful recovery from addiction and development of an intimate relationship with your Heavenly Father. And we invite your questions, comments and experience with the Bible and drugs, alcohol, or behavioral addictions as well as addiction recovery at the end.

Magnify God, not the addiction

The next step of spiritual healing from addiction is to magnify God, not your addiction. When the urge to (FILL IN THE BLANK) tries to take over, let God take over. How do you do this? Put your focus on Him. Praise Him and He shows up.

I know – this is the last thing you feel like doing when you just want to feed an addiction – but your spirit needs to be fed with God. He is a spirit being. He is your creator and your Heavenly Father. Your spirit yearns for Him. You are a spirit with a body, not a body with a spirit. Your flesh is trying to stay in control, but you CAN win this battle!

I will say it again. Praise Him and He shows up.

God inhabits the praises of His people. (Psalms 22:3)

David, the king of Israel in the Old Testament, knew this and He commissioned a continuous praise team. David was a mighty warrior and conquered Goliath. You may not realize it yet, but you are also a mighty warrior and can conqueror the Goliath of addiction when you surrender to God. God is the Commander-in-Chief of the battle you are now engaged in.

When you are under His command, you WILL be more than a conqueror. (Romans 8:37)

Praise God regardless of how you feel. When you praise Him, the atmosphere shifts. Sing hymns to Him. Put on praise and worship music. All of these techniques will help elevate your spirit and your flesh will take a back seat. Make this a lifestyle – not just something that you do on occasion or when you are having a tough time. Addiction is warfare and you need preemptive strategies to win the battle.

God promises that when we keep our minds focused on Him, He will keep us in perfect peace. (Isaiah 26:3)

Peace is the desire of your heart. Your peace has been robbed and your spirit has been quenched because of the effects of the addiction. The lifestyle that resulted from this tragic disease led you down a road that was not part of God’s plan for you. God says,

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).\

Spiritual addiction treatment

When you get a deep revelation of how much God loves you and that He wants the very best for you, trusting Him and letting Him take control, not only becomes, easy, it becomes necessary. When you review the shambles of your broken life, you reconcile yourself to the fact, that you NEED Him. Only He has the power to completely deliver you. He created you to establish His kingdom and glorify Him. That can only be done when you are fulfilling His plan for your life. He wants to deliver you more than you want to be delivered.
