Putting God first will heal your spirit

Making God the priority in your life is essential for spiritual healing with any issues, including addiction. When you put Him first, everything becomes small compared to your gigantic God, who will help you conquer all things. When you begin your day with your focus on God, it shifts your thinking as well as the atmosphere around you.

The first thing I do before I get out of bed is talk to my Heavenly Father. When my feet hit the floor I am speaking scriptures that relate to God’s promises, who He says He is and who He says that I am. One of my favorite scriptures is Psalms 1:3 because it truly encompasses everything:

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Psalms 1:3, King James Version

Let’s analyze this verse and see what God is saying about who we are as His children. God planted us here for a purpose. There is no way He is not going to care for us. Look at the word “rivers.” God is telling us that He will give us more than we will ever need to fulfill what He planned for us long before He even created us. This certainly did not include addiction.

God will heal you. In fact, He has already done it. Just believe and receive. Expect it to happen and enter His gates with praise and thanksgiving for this biblical promise and pattern of healing and deliverance. When we surrender to God and come into alignment with His perfect will for us, we live an abundant life. Everything we touch will prosper. Even in our old age, we will continue to be prosperous as “our leaves shall never wither.”

When I first read this scripture I didn’t fully believe what it meant. I must have said it out loud hundreds of times over the past couple of years. Now I know without a doubt that it is the absolute truth because it has become alive in my spirit. Whenever fear tries to creep in about my future, I simply recall this verse and the fear immediately vanishes! God’s word is a weapon of mass destruction and creative construction. When you become a verbal partner with the Almighty Defender, the enemy flees.

When we come to understand who God truly is and then know who we are, it becomes easy to conquer all things, including addiction. Pray for God to help you to always put Him first, speak His word, and stand firm on all of His promises, which is the road to healing.
